I Run This City: Camden, NJ (iRun) utilizes mentorship and running to promote healthy lifestyles, improve self-confidence and inspire Camden youth to dream bigger. We achieve this mission through our three core values; courage, effort, and respect.
What We Do
We pair students in grades 6-12 with volunteer running mentors to push each other to accomplish more than they ever believed. Students train 3 times per week with mentors to complete a milestone race: the Blue Cross Broad Street Run 10-Miler held in Philadelphia each May or the Philadelphia half marathon in November. Youth run up to 300 miles per program year, spending up to 8 hours a week with mentors. Students participate in approximately 7 races throughout the season including the Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge 10K, and The Joesph Fund 5K. The program provides students with a pair of running shoes, race entries, uniform shirts, and transportation to and from events, at no cost.
